Bayer CropScience incorporated in the year 1958; is engaged in manufacturing of crop protection products, non agricultural pest-control, seeds and plant biotechnology.
The company was earlier known as Bayer (India). In the year 1924, the company set up Bayer crop protection research department. Later in 1951 the company launched its first systemic insecticide Systox (demeton).
Being part of Bayer group, today it is one of the leading producer of crop protection products having three business division namely crop protection, environmental science and bioscience.
Bayer CropScience has employee strength of 17,800 people located in more than 120 countries.
Business Divisions
Crop protection- This division of company focuses on manufacturing herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and seed treatment. Company markets a range of insecticides under the name Confidor. Its fungicide unit is focused on cereals, industrial crops and pathogens. Company hold no.1 position in seed treatment segment.
Environmental Science- This division is engaged on developing innovative products and services in area of on pest management, vector and locust control and weed control solutions. It has developed crop protection active ingredients catering customer of non-agricultural pest control markets. This division is focused on catering individual and commercial customers.
Bioscience- Bayer focuses on plant biotechnology and plant breeding techniques to enhance the quality of crops and vegetables.
Milestones:
2011- New fungicidal seed treatment, active ingredient Penflufen, is registered in the first market (UK, potato cultivation, product Emestoâ„¢)
2011- The new LifeNet® mosquito nets which, for the first time, have directly integrated the active ingredient into a polypropylene fiber, receive an interim recommendation from the World Health Organization.
2011- Acquisition of US-based Hornbeck Seed Company (US soybean seed market)
2010- Bayer CropScience signs several collaboration agreements under its BioScience business unit: One example is the collaboration agreement with Evogene, to improve wheat seed.
2010- Nunhems, the vegetable seed business of Bayer CropScience, expands research and seed production. It invests EUR 12 million in its research facilities in the Netherlands and US$ 30 million in a new seed processing facility in the United States.
2010- New herbicide Indaziflam is registered
2010- New fungicidal active ingredient Bixafen registered in first market (UK)
2010 -New rice fungicide Isotianil is granted regulatory approval in Japan (product Routine®)
2009- Bayer CropScience is first to sequence the genome of rapeseed/canola – This milestone will speed up research and breeding programs.
